When you’re missing several teeth, performing the most basic daily tasks can be incredibly frustrating. Chewing your favorite foods or speaking with confidence can feel daunting. Dentures are an affordable way for restoring aesthetics and function for many adults and seniors. You also do your oral health a big favour, especially if you need a partial denture. The last thing that you want is for neighbouring teeth to shift and cause misalignments in your bite and smile.

Complete Vs Partial Dentures

Dentures - Complete / Full and Partial

How Do They Differ?

Other than the number of teeth they replace, complete and partial dentures are most differentiated by how they’re fitted. Complete dentures are designed to use opposing teeth, saliva, natural suction and the anatomical structure of the mouth to stay in place. In contrast, partial dentures are attached to a metal framework held in place by the contours of the bone and gums. They’re also kept stable via metal connectors attached to healthy teeth for added support.

Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years, but may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to normal wear.

Why Might I Need A Denture?

If you have lost all the teeth in your arch, you may require a complete denture. Partial dentures may be the best option for you if you have lost several teeth in an arch. You may need a denture if you’re interested in enhancing your smile and facial tissues, or if you’re looking to improve your ability to chew, speak, and digest food.
Dentures require constant follow ups due to changes in the oral cavity. Over time, the structure of our mouth changes, which leads to the misfit of the denture. Hence, during your follow up sessions your denture will be adjusted to properly fit your jaw and teeth and remain highly secured in your mouth.
